Brooklyn based composer/multi-instrumentalist Michael Kammers forged Abacus from equal parts chamber ensemble and metal group. Their music weaves a diverse array of influences (minimalism, no wave, math rock, free jazz, serialism) into intricate compositions that are as thoughtful as they are intense.
Rooted in the notion that music is both a model of the universe and a part of its make-up, Abacus aims to merge the sacred and profane into a sonic rite, to forge an acoustic temple in which listener and performer are engaged in mutual aural communion, initiated by extreme amplitude, trance-like repetition and proportional matrices.
After having spent the last year recording in their drummer’s (Tim Monaghan) Greenpoint basement, Abacus (Alex Hills – Keys, Greg Chudzik – bass JP Gilbert – Guitar) emerge to release their self-titled debut album in limited edition 12” vinyl.
